We kneel...during the Creed!

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation. There are only 2 times during the Roman liturgy throughout the year when we are commanded to kneel during the proclamation of the Creed. The Feast of the Annunciation and the Solemnity of Christmas are both times we pause to recall the moment of the Incarnation, the Eternal Word of God become flesh among us.
Most of the time there is very little attention paid to this solemn moment. It is often just part of rubric observation. However, the homage the Church's liturgy pays to the greatest moment in salvation history is also the most sublime and simple in it's praise of Jesus' Incarnation.
As you kneel today during the proclamation of the Creed, remember the Word becomming flesh and dwelling among us. This moment by Mary and her unconditional acceptance of God's will is the greatest, "Yes," in all of the history of salvation.
Mary's acceptance of God's will shows the infinite love and mercy our eternal God has for his created people.
By offering Mary the chance to say, "Yes," to God...the entire cosmological symphony of Jesus' Messianic life, ministry, suffering, death and resurrection all hinged on the simple assent of a young Virgin.
